About nav.config
Nav config must point to real pages or external links. It cannot create virtual pages.

Why not hand-write the sidebar?
Manual sidebars split the source of truth and make validation and tracking harder.
Can I hide pages?
Yes. Mark items as hidden in nav config for internal drafts or unpublished pages.
